(Grade 4/5)

Function: To provide learning activities appropriate to the age of the students in order to develop an interest in and ability for creative expression. To develop an understanding and appreciation of art in each student.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Plan and prepare a program of study to meet the needs and interests of the students
2.Establish and communicate clear learning objectives
3.Develop age-appropriate instructional strategies to achieve the art curriculum goals
4.Demonstrate and assist students to use different techniques and media to develop art works aligned to their artistic abilities
5.Provide instruction that encourages students to understand and appreciate art
6.Encourage students to express their own personalities and thoughts through the creative process
7.Assess and evaluate student’s performance on a regular basis
8.Prepare progress reports
9.Provide feedback to relevant stakeholders about each student’s progress
10.Set and maintain acceptable standards of classroom behavior to establish an orderly learning environment
11.Show students how to properly use and care for materials, tools and equipment
12.Plan and present art displays
13.Be a positive member of the school community
14.Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal
15.Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Licensed in Visual Art (Pre-K - 8, Required) (All Levels, Preferred) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
2. Master's Degree preferred, from an accredited college or university, in Art or related Art field;
4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to students and adults;
5. Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies;
6. Expertise and knowledge of effective practices within the discipline including differentiation of instruction
7. Experience developing or willingness to develop new curriculum as part of a team within the discipline
8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification
requirements.
