Job Description

Learning Facilitators (5)

Job Goal: The Somerville Calculus Project supports black and Latina/o students as they explore and develop a deeper appreciation of mathematics. Once students are enrolled, the Calculus Project remains with them throughout their journeys towards academic success, self-exploration, social impact, and a love of learning. Each summer, students come together for 3 weeks of deep, rigorous, engaging, math experiences. The Calculus Project experience encourages students to bring their full selves, commit their minds to their development, and be designers of their futures. They explore what it means to be “a person like me” both for their current selves and for the people they wish to be. We aim to expose students to possibility and eliminate self- and socially-imposed mental constraints.

Our students think flexibly, face challenges with courage, and strive for their personal best. We are searching for eight (8) staff members who will do the same. Staff are expected to devote a full 3 hours each day to the position.

MA mathematics license is optional. Learning Facilitators co-plan with Learning Designers and oversee project–based learning. Aspiring teachers or those seeking practicum hours are encouraged to apply.

•Facilitate the application of conceptual understanding and deepen students’ conceptual understanding through short-term projects
•Uncover and fill student skill and knowledge gaps through applied instruction and/or modeling
