Anticipated Coordinator
Extended Learning Program
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal:
The Extended Learning Program Coordinator is a part time position responsible for coordination of services and the delivery of academic services to support a distance learning program that serves Somerville students who are currently excluded from school, or are at high risk of dropping out. The Coordinator will oversee the work of the Extended Learning Teachers, Tutors and the Extended Learning Counselor, in partnership with school and District administrators, and parents/guardians of participating students. Working with school administrators, the Extended Learning Coordinator will apply best practices of adult learning and credit recovery, the Coordinator will assure that Somerville students excluded from school and in need of a flexible learning environment have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma.

Qualifications:
• Master's degree.
• Five years outstanding teaching/counseling or related experience at the high school level including some experience with young adult learners is required.
• Experience with instruction using an online learning platform is required.
• Experience with computer-based programs and Internet resources

Responsibilities:
Coordination of the academic program for students on extended suspension.
Under Massachusetts law (Ch. 222), effective July 1 2014, students on extended suspension must be “provided an opportunity to make academic progress during the period of suspension, to make up assignments, and earn credits missed.”
• In collaboration with Somerville High School House staff and the Guidance Department Head, and the Full Circle Principal, provide outreach to students on extended suspension and oversee the provision of an individualized program of study using an online learning platform that will allow them to continue with their education.
• Work with school staff to facilitate any required Special Education needs students may have.
• Supervise and facilitate academic and social – emotional support components of the program in collaboration with Full Circle Principal, Department Chairs and House staff.

Program Oversight, Policy issues and Communication
• Provide a clear organizational structure and supervision of Extended Learning Teacher and Counselor.
• Collaborate with Headmaster/Full Circle Principal, Guidance Department Head and College and Career Readiness Director as required.
• Participate in an Advisory Committee to assist in review of outcomes data and make recommendations for program improvement as needed.
• Meet regularly and consult with the Advisory Committee regarding dropout prevention efforts.

Policies, Procedures, Personal skills
• Follow School Committee policies and administrative procedures.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational management skills.

Other duties as assigned

Schedule:
July 1, 2020 thru June 30,2021 (Hours to be scheduled with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum)

Work Year/Day: Position is primarily school year. Summer hours are required in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent and program needs. School day meeting time will be needed, as determined by student schedules and necessary consultation with school administration and counseling staff.
