Middle School Athletic Trainer

Job Goal: The Middle School Athletic Trainer will provide 1st aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for Somerville Public School student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master's Degree preferred
• NATABOC Certification Required
• CPR/AED Certification Required
• Massachusetts Allied Health Professional Licensure

Required Skills:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy that are essential to building strong partnerships.
• Solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such.
• Strong organizational skills.

• The athletic trainer be responsible for making appropriate physician referral.
• Provide coverage at home events for middle school sports and coverage of Home High school lacrosse games.
• Coordinate the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
• Maintain a line of communication with the head athletic trainer and team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
• Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport specific conditioning programs and methods.
• Maintain communication with parents on the care & treatment of their student-athlete.
• File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
• Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces.
• Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
• Assists in the development of emergency procedures for injured athletes and other students injured in school sports related activities.
• Monitors the progress of injured athletes and advises coaches and parents as to when athletes are able to return to practice and game sessions. Informs and advises coaches and parents of progress of injured student athletes and the degree to which they may participate in practice and game sessions.
• Middle school games coverage
• High School Lacrosse games coverage

Terms of Employment:
• Yearly Appointment
• Work year is according to a school year schedule (June-Sep)
• Up to 18.75 hours per week/some weekends required.
• Salary/Stipend: $15,000
