2020 SPELL HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM

ELL PATHWAY/GOAL COUNSELOR
SUMMER PROGRAM FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LERNERS (SPELL)
SOMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

Program Goal:
The ELL Pathway/GOAL Programs support English Learners in meeting academic standards towards High School Graduation in traditional high school and Adult Education settings. The ELL Pathway/GOAL Counselor will work in collaboration with the SHS SPELL Director and ELL Wrap Around Coordinator to provide social and emotional supports and resource and referral including transition counseling, substance abuse prevention, and student leadership development.

All Staff: There is a mandatory Orientation Day in June, date is TBD
and a mandatory Professional Development Day in June, date is TBD

ELL Pathway/GOAL Counselor SHS SPELL
The ELL Pathway/GOAL Counselor will provide social and emotional supports and resource and referral including transition counseling, substance abuse prevention, student leadership development. Responsibilities include response to attendance issues, credit recovery, interventions to reduce immediate risks of dropping out of program, assist in planning support services related to ongoing issues that impact students’ ability to engage in the school and program and outreach to families that may include home and off-site visits.

Terms of Employment:
Monday – Friday Schedule, 8:00am-1:30pm
Start Date: July 6, 2020
End Date: July 31, 2020

Stipend: $4000 (grant funded)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Appropriate DESE Educator License and/or Social Work Degree
• Evidence of three years or more providing counseling services to diverse children and youth
• Ability to work occasional evenings and perform off-site visits
• Record of collaboration with staff in a variety of roles
• Bilingual/multilingual and ability to communicate with diverse students and families

Reports to: Administrator of Programming and Support
