Job Description
Overview:

The School Psychologist works to help promote personal, emotional and social growth in students so as to allow them to make proper adjustments to school.

Responsibilities and Duties

? Supports the building Principal as he/she oversees the school community. ? Works closely with the following: o Parents o Building Principal o School Nurse o Special Education Teachers to create, implement, and monitor behavior plans o Other School Psychologists/School Social Worker and SPED Director on a regular basis o Guidance Counselors throughout the system on an as needed basis o Classroom Teachers and building specialists to encourage and support grade level and school team-building to benefit the students o METCO Director ? Schedules and coordinates counseling sessions of the following nature: o Individual counseling o Crisis counseling o Short term counseling to general education students as needed o Counseling for students on IEP’s if it is determined that in-school counseling is vital to the student being able to access the curriculum. ? Chairs/Facilitates Instructional Support Team and 504 meetings (in buildings without an Elementary Guidance Counselor). ? Coordinates and schedules all psychological assessments and evaluations as outlined below (including updating of information in student’s cumulative folder): o Individual Psychological Testing (i.e. WISC-IV, BASC/Connors) o Attend TEAM meetings and present reports and recommendations o Conduct classroom observations when appropriate o FBA (Functional Behavior Analysis) o Kindergarten screening at elementary level (in buildings without an Elementary Guidance Counselor). ? Consults with Administration, parents, outside providers, teachers, other school psychologists and school counselors throughout the system. ? At the elementary level only, serves as the primary building leader and coordinator for the Response to Intervention process, coordinating and running meetings, setting and maintaining schedules, and providing training to staff. ? Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

Qualifications

? CAGS in School Psychology or Doctorate in related field. ? Massachusetts Educator’s License (School Psychology, all levels). ? A minimum of three years’ experience working with individuals from ages three to twenty-two in an educational setting. ? Knowledge of Special Education and the requirements of state regulations and IDEA. ? Those personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position. ? Employment based on successful completion of a CORI background check.

Other Reports to the Director of Special Education as well as the building Principal. This is a 10 month position with a teacher’s contract.

We offer an academically rigorous curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, which focuses on achieving competence in all the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts.

Hatherly supports an inclusive philosophy of learning, offering heterogeneous classes, flexible instructional groups, and support services which are designed to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles. Classroom teachers collaborate in grade level teams to develop curriculum, share instruction strategies, plan assessments, and review current research. Additionally, specialists work closely with classroom teachers to provide related services in Special Education, Remedial Reading, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational and Physical Therapy and Adaptive Physical Education. Students also receive specialized instruction in Art, Music, and Physical Education on a weekly basis. As well, Hatherly prides itself in preparing technologically proficient students who are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the 21st century. Our Curriculum Lab houses a total of 32 computers, which all students have access to during their scheduled classroom times and throughout the week. Every classroom also has one or two student computers which offer opportunities for further practice, integration and advancement with our technology curriculum. Hatherly recognizes our responsibility in preparing students who are ready for the challenges of an ever-changing pluralistic society. Therefore, Character Education is strongly emphasized through the socio-emotional curriculum of the Open Circle School Competency Program and our Positive Behavior Interventions and Suppots Program. These core values are reinforced throughout the daily life at Hatherly.

Hatherly benefits from an active parental community involved in our Parent Teacher Organization and School Council. These groups meet monthly to plan special events, organize fundraisers and develop school improvement goals. They are a vital and essential asset to our continued success. Some longtime activities and traditions at Hatherly School include: Family Pizza or Ice Cream Nights, Hatherly Holiday Breakfast, Hatherly Hoopla Fair, and Ship Shape Day.
