Job Description
Nurse - RN

Assist in meeting the physical and healthcare needs of the student with special physical/medical needs during the school day. Promote and maintain the health and well being of student in the classroom setting in order to enable them to take full advantage of available educational opportunities. This is a part time special education 1:1 nursing position and is not benefit eligible. Anticipated start date of 11/07/2019.

? Valid current license to practice as an LPN or Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts
? Graduate from accredited practical nursing program
? preferred 1-3 years experience in pediatrics, community health, education, or related field.
? Current CPR certification

To the extent of his/her generic and continuing education and experience, the registered nurse shall assume responsibility for the following health services, under the direction of the school nurse, and director of Health Services

Nursing Responsibilities
? Collaborate with school nurse/lead nurse and the parents to develop and implement individual health care plan for student assigned.
? Maintain an accurate health record on student. Document health related activities and treatments on daily logs and/or computer based health record program as appropriate.
? Document administration of medications, treatments, first aid and illness care provided to student Complete accident reports.
? Communicate with parents as necessary regarding the health status of student
? Administer medications and perform treatments as ordered by the primary physician in the classroom setting.
? Provide emergency care in cases of injury or sudden illness, followed by referral to the primary care physician or proper medical facility.
? Collaborate with school nurse to screen all new students in classroom to ensure compliance with immunization law.
? Collaborate with school nurse to recommend exclusion and monitoring of re-admission to schools for students with infectious or communicable diseases.
? Maintain medical equipment and supplies as appropriate in the classroom per student Individualized healthcare plan (IHCP)
? Collaborate/cooperate with community providers and state agencies to meet the health and social service needs of student.
? Be a resource to the student, parent, principal and teachers in matters pertaining to health.
? Identify health and safety hazards in the classroom and advise school Nurse, Director of school nursing and teacher(s).
? Demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to administer medications appropriately, in keeping with school policy on administration of medication in school.
? Other duties as assigned by School Nurse, Nurse leader per students IHCP.
? Provide personal care, assistance and supervision, as needed, for 1:1 students including:
? Dressing and undressing
? Toileting, including diaper change
? Grooming
? Feeding
? Positioning
? Transfers: i.e. may include heavy lifting
? Hygiene

Educational Responsibilities:

? Assist student with proper body mechanics related to academic work
? Assist student in using adaptive equipment
? Assist with maintenance of classroom supplies including cleaning and care of equipment

An Act Relative to Background Checks

On January 10, 2013, Governor Deval Patrick signed into law H.4307, an act relative to background checks. The new law requires all newly hired employees, beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, to submit to state and national fingerprint-based criminal background checks.

As a new employee of the Weymouth Public Schools, you will be subject to a Massachusetts criminal background check (CORI). In addition, you will be required to submit to a National Criminal Background Check by fingerprint.

The fee charged is $55.00 for licensed educators and $35 for all other school personnel.
