ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY FOR THE
2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

Academic Tutor Coordinator / Afterschool Tutorial Program (SPS-ATP) ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, GRADES K-8

Job Goal:
The Somerville Public Schools is now accepting applications for the positions of site-based Academic Tutor Coordinator. Under the direction of the Principal and the Title 1 Director, the role of the Academic Tutor Coordinator is to provide onsite administrative and technical support to Academic Tutors in the building. This position is not supervisory. One Coordinator will be hired at each of the following seven school sites: Argenziano School, East Somerville Community School, Healey School, Kennedy School, Winter Hill Community School, and West Somerville Neighborhood School.

Responsibilities:
Technology Duties:
• Complete technology PD training and become knowledgeable of the student record database and the STAR assessment reporting system
• Serve as the contact person for all Academic Tutors in the building to respond to inquiries on how to use the student record database
• Serve as the contact person for all Academic Tutors to respond to inquiries on how to access and use student reports in the STAR database
• Assist Academic Tutors as needed with inquiries such as: how to track attendance on the student record database and to create any required student progress reports

Administrative Duties:
• Work with principals to recruit tutors
• Work with principals to form tutor groups based on assessment data
• Distribute curriculum materials to tutors as needed; collect materials at the end of session
• Assist Academic tutors with required reporting
• Report Tutor absences to building based administration to ensure that students, classroom teachers and parents are notified of a tutor’s absence
• Monitor student attendance and behavior, as well as being present during student dismissal/pick up time; report concerns to building administration for action
• Ensure that students attending tutoring receive snacks and keep track of the number of students who receive snack. Report accurate numbers of snacks received to Food Service.

Qualifications:
• Massachusetts D.E.S.E Teaching License in K-8 grade level
• Experience teaching or working with students in grades K-8
• Demonstrated experience using technology and computer systems to gather data, including STAR and MCAS
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, positive energy, and strong leadership skills

Terms of Employment:
• Coordinators will work over the summer to recruit tutors, as well as work with administration to form tutor groups
• The start date is September 1, 2018 with an end date of May 1, 2019
• Participate in Coordinator trainings, to be scheduled, totaling 5 hours, throughout the year Coordinators will be paid at the rate of $3,000
