Job Description
The Amherst Regional High School Library is seeking an outgoing and self-directed library assistant who enjoys working with high school students, faculty, and staff and is enthusiastic about supporting the academic and research needs of diverse learners in a public facing role. This is a full time, 10 month paraprofessional position.

Qualified applicants should possess and/or have experience with the following:

Strong, positive interpersonal skills and ability to build respectful and tactful relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members
Effective ability to organize time, prioritize tasks, and work independently despite frequent interruptions, and to exercise discretion on confidential matters
Strong ability to work as a member of a professional learning community
Experience using library management systems, Microsoft and Google software (Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides)
Highly effective oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities and duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Provide a warm and welcoming environment as a first point of contact to all patrons
Provide reference and readers advisory assistance to students, teachers, and staff and assist with research in print, database, and online library resources
Assist the librarian in the maintenance and development of the print collection and in the processing and cataloging of all library materials (books, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, newspapers/periodicals, and digital devices)
Maintain circulation and patron records, including monitoring the borrowing of materials and charging, renewing, and discharging library books and materials
Support academic curriculum through descriptive cataloging and collaborate with teachers and library staff to create unit book carts and course/subject LibGuides
Assist in the training, supervision, and evaluation of student workers
Provide technical assistance to patrons on library computers
Develop themed displays and bulletin boards throughout the year
Assist in daily operational tasks, including opening and closing the library
Other duties as assigned by the Librarian

Once hired, we will support the successful candidate to develop a proficiency with the following software:
Alexandria Library Management System
Library databases
LibGuides
