Mx2 Instructor (8th Grade Geometry)
SOMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL



Job Goal: The Mx2 Instructor will provide high quality face-to-face instruction with online facilitation of an after school Geometry course for eighth grade students. The educator will provide blended instruction utilizing an online platform to organize student work, feedback, and discussions. The teacher will also collaborate with curriculum leaders regarding the program’s curriculum development and evaluation. Mx2 is a reference to taking two math classes in parallel. Students will be expected to take 8th Grade Algebra 1 at their K-8 school alongside the blended after-school Geometry course at Somerville High School.

Responsibilities:
• Throughout the 2019-2020 school year, provide face to face geometry instruction at Somerville High School for eighth grade students, twice-a-week, 3:15-4:45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays (students choose which session to attend)
• Continually update and maintain Schoology course site with current assignments and needed resources
• Plan effective lessons and assessments
• Monitor student progress and provide timely in person and online feedback as students develop an understanding of geometry concepts
• Maintain communication with each enrolled family on a regular basis
• Communicate with Somerville High School and Central Office administration to ensure student safety
• Develop blended learning Geometry Curriculum in consultation with Somerville High School Math Department Chair and Elementary Curriculum Coordinator (maximum of 50 hours starting in Summer 2018 to be paid as a separate stipend at the STA contractual rate)

Qualifications:
• MA Educator License Required (Mathematics, 9 - 12)
• Successful experience teaching mathematics to middle grades and/or high school students
• Working knowledge of online learning platforms such as Khan Academy, Pearson’s PowerGeometry, Edgenuity, and Schoology
• Ability to collaborate with others to support program development and student learning
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills
• If selected, an internal candidate would teach this class in addition to their regularly assigned course load.

Terms of Employment: This is a stipended position compensated at the STA contractual hourly rate for 15 hours per week (see Responsibilities section for specific tasks to be completed) over the course of 35 weeks.
