SFLC ParentChild + Home Visitor

Job Goal: The Prenatal - Early Childhood Services and Supports Unit of the SFLC works to develop & implement a comprehensive, research-based strategy for prenatal to early childhood supports, ensuring alignment & coordination with early childhood through K priorities, putting children & families on a path toward school success.

The ParentChild+ Home Visitor focuses on reaching out to diverse families with young children in the community and strengthening parent-child interactions. Recognizing the family as the child’s first teacher, the home visitor works in the homes of participating families, building positive relationships with them to support their parenting roles. Home visits include building language and literacy-rich home environments, preparing children for school readiness and school success, promoting positive parenting skills, enhancing the child’s cognitive and social-emotional development, and fostering pre-literacy skills that are essential for school readiness.

Preferred Qualification:
• Knowledge and/or experience in child development, early childhood education, family dynamics and community resources.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving and multitasking ability.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly desirable.
• Ability to work from a family strengths perspective rather than a deficit perspective.
• Home visiting experience a plus but not required.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Must have strong computer skills in data entry and Microsoft Office.
• Must have flexible schedule to accommodate family needs, may include some evenings or weekend hours.
• A valid Massachusetts driver’s license with access to a car is required for anyone applying for this position.
• Deep commitment to closing opportunity gaps and promoting equitable practices.

• Understanding and supporting the SFLC mission and values.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and cooperatively with others as a team.
• Assist in organizing and implementing community outreach efforts to identify families of young children.
• Visit assigned families twice a week for half an hour each visit.
• Plan developmentally appropriate activities to stimulate learning and encourage parent-child interactions.
• Provide support in parent-child interactions that encourages developmentally appropriate activities for the changing needs of toddlers and preschoolers.
• Model for parents the appropriate ways to interact verbally and educationally with their child using toys and books.
• Maintaining and promptly submitting accurate, complete and correct reports as required by ParentChild+ National Center.
• Assist families by providing referrals and access to community resources.
• Report issues to the ParentChild+ Director.
• Perform occasional translation or interpretation.
• Attend ParentChild+ staff meetings and trainings; attend SFLC all-staff meetings.
• Attend trainings and become qualified with ASQ-3, ASQ-SE2 and any additional screening tools.
• Assist families in completing the ASQ-3 & ASQ-SE2 developmental screenings.
• Assist, plan & facilitate playgroups that promote social-emotional, physical and cognitive development of children.
• Commits to providing and promoting equitable practices to ensure access for all families
• Other job-related duties as assigned by the program Director.

Terms of Employment:
Work Year: 10 months / Part Time / Up to 18.75 hour per week
Salary: $21.84 per hour / Up to 18.75 hours per week / Grant Funding
