Junior Clerk
EAST SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Job Goal: Organize, coordinate, schedule and perform office functions to support the Principal/Assistant Principal/Director and/or Supervisor. Coordinate communications between administrators, District and site personnel, parents, students and the general public.

Bilingual English/Spanish speaker preferred

Rate of Compensation: In accordance with AFSCME Clerical Collective Bargaining Agreement

JUNIOR CLERK
JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB GOALS:

Performs a variety of standard clerical duties to support the office, requiring a general knowledge of the operation, including the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Types/word processes;
• Performs data entry work;
• Sorting and distributing incoming mail, preparing outgoing mail and faxing of communications;
• Maintains general records and student records so that they remain updated and easily accessible;
• Provides telephone answering services; takes messages and redirects calls to appropriate personnel;
• Provides receptionist duties for all visitors to the school or departmental office;
• Provides information to the public;
• Performs such other duties as are necessary that are within the guidelines of this job description.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent, related school or office experience de¬sirable;
• Demonstrated ability to type thirty (30) error-free words per minutes;
• Ability to use computers efficiently;
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office;
• Good organizational and multi-tasking abilities;
• Proficiency in the use of all office machinery and technology;
• Ability to interact pleasantly and efficiently with students, staff and the public;
• Ability to work diligently to help maintain smooth office operations;
• Must be reliable with good interpersonal and telephone communication skills;
• Knowledge of school office procedures, including the maintenance of records;
• Ability to exercise good judgment and common sense; and
• Aptitude or competence for other assigned responsibilities.
