ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY FOR THE
2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

Student-Athlete Mentor
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal:
The Student-Athlete mentor will serve as an extra support to SHS student-athletes in their academic success and post-secondary planning.

Qualifications:
• Strong project-management and communication skills
• Interest in and willingness to learn about College & Career Readiness processes at SPS
• Experience in and willingness to learn about collegiate athletic recruiting processes

Responsibilities: Meet with a caseload of student-athletes at SHS regarding their post-secondary plans.
• Meet with a caseload of student-athletes regarding their academic progress at SHS and the academic performance needed for their post-secondary plans.
• Assist students in completing the college application process.
• Assist students in completing the athletic recruiting process for collegiate sports including:
o Registering with the NCAA eligibility center
o Communicating with college coaches
o Arranging college visits
• Communicate with students’ families, counselors, teachers, and SHS coaches as necessary

Terms of Employment:
• Stipend: $3,000 (up to 120 hrs @ $25/hour).

Position Reports to: SHS Principal and Director of College & Career Readiness
