Job Description
JOB TITLE: Bus Monitor Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Administration or Designee

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Experience supervising a large group of part time employees.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• High School Diploma or G.E.D Certificate.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Finance and Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
Provide daily supervision of all bus monitors (approximately 24) to ensure proper and consistent performance of duties.
• Interview, hire, and evaluate all bus monitors. Counsel bus monitors and recommend disciplinary action as needed.
• Coordinate, plan and execute bus monitor training programs
• Assist bus monitors with student behavior management issues and other work related situations.
• Schedule and assign work/bus routes on a daily basis to ensure proper bus monitor coverage.
• Receive early morning bus monitor call outs and adjust work/bus routes as necessary
• Communicate with bus monitors regarding issues, events and/or announcements.
• Prepare and maintain a variety of bus monitor records, including payroll records.
• Communicate with parents/guardians and school administrators to resolve bus monitor related complaints
• Order, distribute and maintain first aid kits, safety vests and other bus monitor supplies.
• Attend meetings at district schools, the bus yard or administration building as necessary.
• Communicate and coordinate with the district’s transportation contractor on all transportation related activities to ensure proper busing operations.
• Perform bus monitor duties on a daily basis, including but not limited to:
o Assist the driver to provide a safe bus trip to and from school
o conducts emergency evacuation from the bus, including exiting from the rear emergency door
o opens and closes service doors and ascends/descends the various steps of the bus multiple times per shift
o maintain student discipline
o see that all students are properly seated
o assist students in loading and unloading
o assist students in crossing the road in the manner described in the training manual
o report daily on a prescribed format to the building Principal or other assigned Supervisor, any student who does not follow and obey the rules and regulations for safe transportation of school students
o report daily using a prescribed format, any incident or circumstance concerning the bus, the bus driver, the route, the stop or anything else which may be unsafe or a violation of standard operational procedure for school buses
o While on the bus, the Monitors will work under the direction and supervision of the Driver. However, the monitors will report any problems directly to the building Principal or Supervisor
• Maintain excellent attendance
• Other duties as required by the Director of Finance and Administration or Superintendent.
• Work is performed primarily on a school bus and outside exposed to the elements.
• Work is performed in a moderately noisy setting.
• Hear and speak at normal levels to include making presentations and exchanging information in person and on the telephone
• Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper
• See to read, prepare documents and reports, and to observe students
• Able to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints
• Sit or stand for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and possible running in order to maintain a safe learning environment
• Stamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events
• Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations
• Kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
• Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects
• Constantly, weight is lifted or force exerted up to 10 lbs. Frequently, weight is lifted or force exerted up to 20 lbs. Occasionally, weight is lifted or force exerted up to 50 lbs. Seldom is weight lifted or force exerted up to 60 lbs.

School Year plus up to 2 weeks prior to the start of the school year and 1 week after the end of the school year.

Approximately 6:30AM – 9:00AM and 1:30PM to 4:00PM, Depending on Weather and Other Factors that can Affect Bus Transportation.
