Data Specialist
Full year, full time position

The Arlington School District is looking for an enthusiastic, self-starting data guru to support PowerSchool and PowerSchool Registration, and lead our efforts to coordinate and align data sets system-wide. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Data Specialist’s mission is to maximize the value of the School Department’s data-driven processes and services to support both district and school missions. The Data Specialist supports leaders and teachers in connecting student outcomes, both academic and behavioral, to classroom practices and administrative systems through a process of inquiry. By working with teams across the district, the Data Specialist will continue to plan and execute efficient and innovative ways to improve workflow and processes across all of our business and administrative services.

Qualifications:
? Demonstrated proficiency in technology applications and database programs including; PowerSchool, PowerSchool Registration, Microsoft Excel, School Messenger, EasyIEP, and SNAP-School Health Database, SIMS, EPIMS, SCS, SSDR.
? Demonstrated Computer Science background, including coding skills
? Must have math and statistical skills
? Ability to develop Key Performance Indicators
? Strong Business Acumen
? Data modeling and mining skills a plus with the ability to create visualizations of data
? Demonstrated proficiency with data gathering, data warehousing, data analysis, Google Analytics and reporting using SQL, SAS, ODBC, Tableau, and spreadsheets
? Demonstrated high-level of organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
? Demonstrated proficiency with database administration, configuration, optimization, custom queries, and troubleshooting
? Demonstrated proficiency with web programming and database access using PHP, Javascript, XML, HTML5, or CSS
? Minimum of three years experience with database systems
? PowerSchool Certification strongly preferred
? BA / BS in a related field


Responsibilities:

Support the PowerSchool student information system and PowerSchool Registration as well as various applications and software used system-wide to support the goals and objectives of the user environment. Responsible for information regarding PowerSchool’s student information system, DESE reporting and security portal, administrative, teacher and staff support, data exports, parent portal and year rollover. Database management responsibilities include:
• Configuration of the PowerSchool student information system as required to properly implementing all available product features which may include complex scheduling scenarios, and a highly customized set of student pages. Update custom screens and reports as needed as well as PowerSchool user support
• Responsible for year-end preparation, student rollover, and new school year set up.
• Provide scheduling support to all schools.
• Support District Wide, Centralized, Registration Process. Act as backup for District Registrar
• Collect, organize, analyze and generate reports using Student and Teacher assessment data, Student Test Scores.
• Manage mass enroll of elementary students, and set up class enrollments.
• Analyze/test new and modified software in relation to installation requirements
• Create Standards Based Report Cards, manages opening/closing of elementary parent portals.
• Obtain State Student Numbers for new students, and import data such as MCAS results.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge about systems software supplied by the manufacturer and other support resources for software updates, etc.
• Articulates and documents district data systems, timelines and deadlines.
• Responsible for completing and submitting reports and other information to fulfill all other K-12 Data Mandates of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Justice, and any other Federal or State Agency that requires data from school districts, in addition to those listed above.
• Submits data to state and federal agencies as mandated. Responsible for all corrections, edits necessary to all mandated reports.
• Provides assistance and performs other related duties as may be directed by the C.T.O.
• Attends training and conferences as required to fully perform duties such as:
o DESE Data Training and workshops
o PowerSchool training
o PowerSchool Users group.

Job Requirements
All employees must undergo a criminal background check - CORI and Fingerprinting prior to beginning work.
