SHS Welcome Center Support Liaison

Job Goal: The SHS Welcome Center Support Liaison is responsible to work collaboratively with school staff to create welcoming school and program environments and family engagement opportunities that support teaching, learning, and school achievement for English Learners. The Welcome Center Support Liaison orients new English Learners to the school, follows students’ progress, and provides academic support as well as resource and referral. The Welcome Center Support Liaison provides support to school staff about issues of parent involvement and conducts outreach to families to engage them in decision-making processes. The Welcome Center Support Liaison works towards the goals of improving communication among staff and parents, enhancing families’ capacity to support their children’s learning and to serve as leaders in the school community.

• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
• Computer and internet literacy
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred

• Maintain the SHS Welcome Center as a drop in space for parents/guardians and students to receive information about academic and social supports and resources
• Clearly communicate priorities and goals of the school and English Learner Education Programs, and engage parents in decision-making processes
• Collaboratively maintain a schedule for part-time Welcome Center staff to maximize multilingual capacity
• Assist in the organization of academic support services including push-in support and before and after school tutoring
• Provide substitute coverage for classes as needed
• Maintain communication with SHS School Counseling staff to provide support, resource and referral for students identified with needs
• Maintain ongoing communication with families about their goals and expectations for their child(ren)’s learning
• Communicate school goals and expectations for student learning in ways that diverse families and community members can understand
• Conduct targeted outreach to families and community members to promote school-based and district-wide SFLC events and programming.
• Assist with translation and dissemination of information relevant to English learner students and their families
• Assist with outreach for Parent/Teacher Conferences; Liaise with SFLC Family Liaison for SPS Multilingual Services
• Serve as Interpreter and/or Translator among diverse families and school staff
• Maintain a welcoming space for families to access school information and resources
• Welcome and orient new students and families to the school
• Attend and effectively participate in Welcome Center Staff Meetings and trainings
• Collaborate to develop events and activities based on topics relevant to the school and student learning
• Serve as clearing house and provide resources and referrals for information and support services
• Maintain a log of communication and activities
• Collaborate with and assist the Parent Information Center in new student assessment, data entry and data management relevant to English Learner students
• Accurately fill out and maintain, enrollment, progress monitoring, transition, and completion forms
• Other duties as required

Terms of Employment:
• Full year (220 work days)
• 8-hour work days (flexible hours to be scheduled e.g. 7:30 – 3:30; 8:00 – 4:00)

Reports to: School Principal and District Administrator for English Learners Education
