• Bachelors or higher level degree in Music Education
• MA DESE Certification in Music Education K-12
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Exemplary interpersonal communications skills that establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents and members of the community
• Experience in teaching Pre-K and Elementary Music in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment
• Thorough knowledge of Kodaly/Conversational Solfege pedagogy
• Proficiency in multi-cultural music genres and traditional genres
• Commitment to changing lives through music education


• Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary music setting with appropriate musical skills for singing, playing, conducting, and musical literature necessary for the realization of grade level Mastery Objective through the Kodaly/Conversational Solfege methodologies for elementary and Pre-K music instruction.
• Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members.
• Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students.
• Participate as an active member in a Professional Learning Community.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor
• Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment.
• Create and maintain a positive and orderly learning condition in the music environment.
• Develop and implement the Components of an Effective Lesson for instruction.
• Provide a classroom management/discipline plan ensuring safety at all times.
• As per the Somerville Teachers Association, Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement
