ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY FOR THE
2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR

Lead Teacher
Somerville Childhood Center
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal: As the Lead Teacher, this person will be responsible for providing leadership for the teaching team in the development and implementation of a safe, developmentally appropriate experience for up to 18 children.

Responsibilities:
• Supervise and work with assistants
• Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum using the state and NAEYC guidelines which addresses the group and individual needs and considers the developmental, cultural and socio-economic background
• Plan and implement small and large group activities
• Assign responsibilities of groups of children to team members
• Complete children’s assessments twice a year and meet with the parents to convey the information
• Keep daily attendance and observation records of each child in preparation for written progress reports
• Keep an on-going communication system with the parents about children’s experiences and progress
• Write up monthly newsletters.
• Assign tasks, responsibilities to co-workers.
• Inform the director when supplies are needed
• Meet with coworkers to complete a performance evaluation and a set of goals.
• Assume the responsibility of the childcare center during the Director’s absence
  • TEACHER MUST BE DIRECTOR 1 QUALIFIED- the morning lead teacher assumes the responsibility in the a.m. and the afternoon lead teacher assumes the responsibility in the p.m. When the lead teachers’ hours overlap and the director is not present it is their responsibility to communicate work together.
    • Refer to and discuss with the Director children in need of special services
    • Meet with the Director to complete and discuss performance evaluation and goal
    • Attend and participate in staff and other meetings
    • Participate in NAEYC Accreditation
    • Provide documentation on qualifications
    • Provide documentation on Professional Development: trainings, coursework…
    • Perform other related duties as required or assigned by the Director or Supervisor of Early Childhood Education

    Qualifications:
    • 21 Years of age
    • Must meet department of Early Education and care and NAEYC Requirements
    • Certifications in first Aid and CPR, or Complete within 3 months of employment

    Terms of Employment: Full Time – 52-week position

    Position Reports to: Somerville Childhood Center Director
