Extended Learning Plan Program Counselor
SOMERVILLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Job Goal:
The Extended Learning Plan Counselor will oversee the delivery of appropriate social/emotional services to support the successful implementation of a distance learning program that will serve Somerville students who are currently excluded from school, or are at high risk of dropping out. Extended Learning Counselor will collaborate with the Extended Learning Teacher, working under the guidance of a Project Coordinator and in partnership with school and District administrators, and parents/guardians of participating students. Extended Learning Counselor will provide guidance on the social/emotional component of each student’s Individual Learning Plan to support students’ continued progress toward attainment of a high school diploma.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in School Counseling preferred;
• Experience working with high-risk high school student population in a diverse urban environment;
• Experience working with English Language Learners;
• Experience working with an online learning platform preferred;
• Experience conducting outreach to high-risk students and their parents/guardians;
• Experience developing re-entry programs for students at high risk of dropping out of school;
• Knowledge of social service system and youth referral process for Somerville community;
• Exceptional organization and time management skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and vacations. Some summer work time, no on-site time required.

Responsibilities:
• Work with respective school and District administrators to identify and engage excluded students in grades 9-12 to participate in program.
• Establish a line of communication with parents/guardians of participating students to ensure support of wrap-around services.
• Coordinate outside support services as needed.
• Work with Project Coordinator, Extended Learning Teacher, school and District administrators to develop Individual Learning Plans for participating students.
• Work with Extended Learning Teacher to develop and participate face to face progress meeting, to be scheduled twice weekly, with students to ensure students are making progress toward specific ILP goals and to identify necessary program modifications to wrap-around support services.
• Coordinate necessary data gathering to support grant reporting requirements.
• Actively participate in required project staff meetings.
• Participate in project site visits by Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) staff, as requested.
• Other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:
• Work up to a maximum of 540 hours (average of 12 hrs/week x 45 weeks) @ $27/hour
