Electrical Teacher
SOMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL – VOCATIONAL DEPARTMENT

Job Goal:
To teach Electrical theory & practical application in preparation for the state electrical code exams. It is the mission of Somerville High School, Center for Career & Technical Education to provide a unique opportunity for all of its students to acquire career skills-both academic and vocational-which will enable them to compete successfully in a technologically advanced economy. Through a blend of academic and vocational instruction, applied learning, and work site experience, our students acquire the career skills and the academic knowledge that will ensure success in their chosen career and in post-secondary education.

Qualifications:
• Possession or in process of gaining Certification by the Massachusetts Department of Education/CTE
• Minimal High School Diploma or equivalent. Advanced degree preferable
• Five years of recent, full time employment experience directly related to electrical
• Possession of current Master Electrician License
• Ability to work with a diverse population

Responsibilities:
• Provide Instruction for grades 9-12 students in Electrical
• Maintain continuous evaluation of student progress
• Maintain up to date student records
• Maintain student discipline through an adherence to accepted school policies and regulations
• Assist students in development of desirable work habits, attitudes, and 21st century skills
• Follows Massachusetts State Frameworks and approved industry curriculum
• Teacher will establish the career area, curriculum and oversight of daily operations.
• Prepares lesson plans in accordance with curriculum.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students and school district.
• Creates a classroom /career area environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and --in harmony with the goals--establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
• Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
