Job Description
JOB GOAL: Assist students in identifying their strengths to achieve success academically, socially and emotionally; support students as they develop educational, occupational, and life plans that will lead to their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible adults.


Academic Support Responsibilities:

1. Assists students in course and subject selection and create student schedules;
2. Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in evolving education and occupation plans;
3. Provides academic support as needed for interventions including enrichment;
4. Works with students and parents to find alternative learning opportunities or placement when necessary;
5. Collaborates with parents when necessary;
6. Supports administration in arranging for tutors and extended learning needs;

Social/Emotional Support Responsibilities:

1. Remains readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity;
2. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment;
3. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities;
4. Works to discover and develop special abilities of students;

Career/Occupational Support Responsibilities:

1. Helps students evaluate career interests and choices;
2. Plans guidance field trips to schools, colleges, and industry for interested students;
3. Assists students and families in the college and scholarship search and application process including the writing of recommendations when necessary;
4. Provides student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Board's policy on student records;
5. Organizes and conducts college fairs;

Administrative Responsibilities:

1. Registers students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the school's varied opportunities for learning;
2. Initiates, assembles, maintains, and interprets accurate attendance records, cumulative progress records, activity records, and uniform transcript records for assigned students;
3. Assists in the orientation of new faculty members;
4. Provides professional development for teachers and student teachers;
5. Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the student personnel services department, and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled;
6. Advises administrators and faculty on the matters of student support needs;
7. Takes an active role in interpreting the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community at large;
8. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
1. Certified or ability to become certified in endorsement area(s) through the New Hampshire Department of Education;
2. Minimum of Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, counseling or related field;
3. Meets highly qualified requirements as stated in the Every Student Succeeds Act;
4. Combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities;
5. Knowledge of counseling and educational techniques and methods;
6. Ability to work with all students;
7. Strong oral and written communication skills;
8. Demonstrated knowledge of how to support the social-emotional needs of students;
9. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively;
10. Strong attention to details and complexity;
11. Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines;
12. Ability to identify and maintain confidential information;
13. Ability to use technology to enhance learning and as a communications tool;
14. Ability to attend scheduled meetings;
15. Maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities;
16. Strong sense of professionalism and understanding of confidentiality.
