ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY FOR THE
2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

Anticipated Interim Elementary Assistant Principal
Albert F. Argenziano School


Job Goal: The elementary school assistant principal assists the building principal in carrying out the many routine phases of administration. The assistant principal is responsible for the school during the absence of the principal.

Responsibilities: The elementary assistant principal is directly responsible to the building principal for performing the specific duties set forth below. These duties are subject to such changes as may be deemed by the principal.

• Prepares, at the discretion of the principal, any official reports which are
required of him/her.
• Performs routine office and clerical work as delegated by the principal.
• Aids in the orientation of new teachers.
• Prepares administrative bulletins.
• Prepares referrals for student personnel services, (e.g., health, student
adjustment services, suspensions).
• Checks pupil’s attendance.
• Is responsible for all instructional materials, such as textbooks and supplies.
• Works with staff members in seeing that school property is not misused or
damaged.
• Assists the principal in disseminating school information concerning policies
and practices to pupils, parents and teachers.
• Represents the school in community functions in place of the principal.
• Holds parental conferences as required regarding such activities as: PTA,
scholarship drives and public performances.
• Performs all other duties as delegated by the principal.

Qualifications:
• A master’s degree from a college or university approved by the School Committee
• A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching and/or administrative experience
• Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal Certification covering Grades K-8.

Terms of Employment:
• The work year is 205 days – work year will begin no earlier than July 1, 2019
• The salary is in accordance with the Somerville Administrators Collective Bargaining Agreement
