ANNOUNCEMENT OF A VACANCY FOR THE
2019 ELEMENTARY SPELL SUMMER PROGRAM

DIRECTOR
High School English Language Learners Summer Program

Program Goal: Summer Programs for English Language Learners provide opportunities for students to practice and develop English skills, receive content instruction and credit recovery, and prepare for transitions in their academic program. Components of the High School SPELL also include SAFE for Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE) SIFE, and the GOAL Program for English Learner students transitioning to Adult Education.

Responsibilities (commencing in March, 2019):
1. Oversee program preparation and planning.
• Assist in the screening, hiring and assigning of SPELL teachers and associated staff.
• Oversee daily management of operations.
• Oversee curriculum development and planning.
• Develop student learning goals and progress monitoring measures.
• Prepare purchase orders for required materials.
• Plan and oversee field trips and enrichment activities.
• Conduct staff meetings and professional development for staff.
• Supervise SPELL teachers and all instructional activities.
• Coordinate outreach, student registration, scheduling, and teacher assignment.
• Supervise the maintenance of accurate records of attendance and academic progress.
• Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary.
• Collaborate with health, counseling, wrap-around, and community service providers to maintain the well-being of students and connect families to resources as needed.
• Assess all program activities and provide recommendations for the improvement of future summer programs.
• Perform any and all other duties as assigned by the District Administrator of Programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
• ESL/ELL License and five years of experience in teaching English Language Learners
• Experience supervising multi-dimensional program(s) (student safety, program planning, supervision of staff, interns, and volunteers, managing supplies, etc.)
• Experience in program and curriculum development and in providing professional development to staff
• Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for students
• Bilingual/multilingual and ability to communicate with diverse students and families

Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree
• Evidence of five years of successful teaching experience
• Demonstrated experience as an administrator or supervisor

Terms of Employment:
• Summer school schedule: TBD
• Mandatory Orientation and Professional Development Days: TBD

Position Reports to: District Administrator of English Language Learner Education

Disclosure: Subject to funding availability and student enrollment; courses may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment.
