Special Education Co-Teacher Long Term Substitute Position

The co-teaching position at Malden High School involves co-teaching up to five periods per day and co-planning with three to four general education math teachers. Candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively as well as demonstrate excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.

Massachusetts Certification in Moderate Special Needs and SEI endorsement required
Massachusetts Certification in Math Grades 9-12) Preferred
Experience working with students within an inclusion setting and/or co-taught model preferred

• Provide direct instruction to students in math classrooms by delivering instruction and ensuring learning through a variety of co-teaching models and strategies.
• Ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications, as needed, to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities, based upon a variety of instructional techniques, approaches and technologies, in accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
• Set high expectations for all students.
• Scaffold, differentiate instruction and use instructional practices that challenge, motivate and engage all learners.
• Communicate and plan with co-teacher(s) on a daily basis.
• Utilize a common approach with co-teacher(s) to planning, teaching, monitoring learning, behavior management, classroom organization, grading and time management.
• Facilitate a classroom environment with co-teacher(s) that is physically and emotionally safe and welcoming for all students and one that encourages all learners to participate and take academic risks, while feeling valued and respected by all.
• Manage a liaison caseload of students, including completion of all required paperwork, developing and implementing Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs), running annual review meetings, IEP and goal/objective writing and completing progress reports quarterly. Adherence to state and federal special education laws, regulations, and mandates is imperative.
• Build a rapport with families, encourage family involvement and communicate with families regularly through phone calls, emails, meetings and progress notes.
• Work collaboratively and communicate as an active team member with special education program manager, social studies teacher leader, house principals, social studies and special education teachers, school adjustment counselors, guidance counselors and other staff.
• Attend social studies content meetings, parent-teacher nights and professional development sessions as assigned.

$75 a day for the first 30 days then $210 a day, day 31 forward for DESE licensed teacher
