Job Description
The Middle School ESL teacher will be responsible for teaching ESL and co-teaching in various content areas.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Planning, developing and implementing instruction in English as a Second Language.
  • Co-Teaching with mainstream teachers in classrooms.
  • Working as a team member, sharing common planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities.
  • Prioritizing the instruction of English Language Learners in Second Language Acquisition.
  • Administering different forms of student assessments and planning instruction for students based on the data from the assessments. Specifically, understanding the WIDA in order to distinguish between the expected benchmarks for students at different language proficiency levels
  • Being an active member of the school's Language Assessment team
  • Facilitating and participating in Transition meetings for students who meet the minimum expectations for leaving ELL services.
  • Attending school based meetings, as needed and pertinent English Language Learner professional development sessions.
  • Completing necessary paperwork regarding the identification, progress monitoring and transitioning of English Language Learners in each school.
  • Ensuring the progress of ELL students regularly receiving instruction improves on the Massachusetts English Proficiency Assessment, when compared to the score from the previous Spring, or the previous Fall, if the student was new.
  • Providing support and sharing information with school staff on ESL/ELL matters.

    Job Requirements
    Bachelor's degree
    MA Teacher Certification in English as a Second Language

    Demonstrated experience working in a diverse, multi-cultural academic setting

    Bilingual in English and one of the dominant languages of the students (Haitian Creole, Spanish, French or Vietnamese)
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Master degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
