Job Description
Provides health care services to students; plans school health program, in cooperation with medical authority and administrative school personnel. Participates in medical examinations and reviews findings to evaluate health status of student and progress of program. Establishes nursing policies to meet emergencies. Cooperates with school personnel in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of students. Provides first aid and maintains health records of students. Works with community agencies in planning facilities to meet needs of students outside school situation. Teaches Health Education by instructing students by using various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration, and uses audiovisual aides and other materials to supplement presentations.

Rhode Island Registered Nurse License required.

Job Requirements
1. Conducts school health service, including physical examinations, immunizations, tests for hearing and vision, based on State Health and Department of Education guidelines.

2. Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.

3. Reports to parents, school personnel, physician, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.

4. Maintains up to date cumulative health records on all students.

5. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.

6. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.

7. Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program and health education program.

8. Advises, consults and implements modification of the education program to meet health needs of individual students.

9. Authorizes exclusion and re admission of students in connection with infections and contagious diseases in consultation with school physician.

10. Responsible for preparation of all health supply orders and inventory maintenance.

11. Tends to emergency situation for students and staff personnel.

12. Documents students' visits to the nurse's office.

13. Administers necessary nursing procedures based on students' needs and doctor's orders.

14. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.

15. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students.

16 Performs other duties as assigned by the School Principal or his/her designee.
