Title: Instructional Learning Assistant
Supervisor: Principal or designee
Salary: As per AFSCME ILA Salary Schedule ($12.45 to start - 16.00 following 6 months probation period)
Start Date: 12/3/2018

Employment: Compensation and work year in accordance with the contract between the Association and the
District School Committee
Evaluation: In accordance with the contract between the Association and the District School Committee

Job goal
To support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs, teachers, and special education programs

• High school diploma
• Paraprofessional certification required or meets highly qualified standard

  • • Experience working with students preferred
    • Ability to climb up and down stairs and travel hallways throughout the course of the work day
    • Ability to follow oral and written directions
    • Ability to work cooperatively and congenially with others
    • Ability to work and manage time in a fast-paced work environment
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Effective organizational skills
    • Proficient in the use of technology
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Such alternatives to these qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable

    • Takes direction from supervising teacher(s) and/or Individual Education Program (IEP) contact person.
    • Respects children’s confidentiality in all interactions with staff, parents and school community.
    • Uses specialized strategies and techniques as directed by supervising teacher(s).
    • Develops an understanding of the student’s accommodations, modifications, goals, and objectives as stated on the IEP.
