2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR

K-12 Supervisor of Health and Physical Education
District Wide

Job Goal: The Supervisor of Health and Physical Education is responsible to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum Instruction and Assessment, and supervises teachers of health and physical education.

1. Assumes a limited teaching schedule.
2. Makes classroom visitations and prepares written evaluative reports of observations to the principals.
3. Takes the initiative in doing the necessary research to determine the needs for modification and updating the total program for all areas of the health and physical education department.
4. Advises on the specifications of physical education and health equipment and supplies.
5. Confers with health and physical education teachers on the condition of permanent property pertinent to the program and provides for any necessary repairs, maintenance or replacement.
6. Serves as curriculum resource person in the field.
7. Leads the teachers of the health and physical education department in the development and continuous improvement of the program offered.
8. Provides for the continuing review and improvement of existing curricula and the preparation of new curricula where needed.
9. Ensures that the health and physical education is constantly apprised of research findings, field experiments and other school program services which augment the teaching and learning effort.
10. Promotes the continuous evaluation of the health and physical education’s programs in terms of its established purpose and goals.
11. Conducts periodic meetings with health and physical education teachers to discuss and plan courses of study, methods of instruction, and to provide assistance to those teachers in other matters affecting pupil progress.
12. Plans and conducts in-service education for program personnel and other staff members.
13. Aids in the coordination and integration of the health and physical education activities and offerings with those of other areas of the educational program.
14. Assists in recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of health and physical education personnel.
15. Orients new teachers to health and physical education policies and all other necessary details for the proper indoctrination of a new person within the health and physical education department.
16. Supervises substitutes and student teachers assigned to the health and physical education department.
17. Encourages teachers to seek further study and professional growth.
18. Prepares and administers the health and physical education department budget.
19. Assumes responsibility for the ordering, inventorying, and distributing of all health and physical education departmental instructional materials.
20. Maintains complete and accurate records of the program and prepares necessary district, state, and federal reports.
21. Interprets program to staff, school committee, and general public.
22. Plans suitable publicity for program.
23. Attends relevant school, district, and professional meetings as necessary.
24. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as administration may from time to time assign.

• Massachusetts D.E.S.E License in appropriate subject area;
Massachusetts D.E.S.E License; Supervisor/Director – Non-Core License
• Master’s degree;
• Experience teaching or knowledge of the specific subject area
• Experience teaching or working with students in grades PK-12
