TITLE: 1:1 Nurse at Private Day School Placement
HOURS: 7:00am - 3:25pm per day/ 220 day program
SALARY: $35 per hour

FUNCTION: To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for one student by minimizing absence due to
illness and creating a climate of health and wellbeing for the student. Includes traveling to/from school on bus as
students one-to-one bus monitor.

1. Observes student to detect health needs and assists classroom teachers in providing educational support to the student
2. Provide direct nursing care to meet the health needs of the student
3. Maintains health records on the student.
4. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on agencies on student health matters as required
5. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or
emergency health need
6. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
7. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards
8. Assists classroom teachers and administrators in developing school health protocols for student
9. Makes recommendations to parents and/or personnel on health needs of individual student.
10. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of student in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
11. Participates in inservice programs.
12. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School committee and policies of the private day school.

The applicant must have completed a bachelor’s in Nursing or a master’s in Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
A minimum of two years of child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing experience.
Completion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health.
Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid from a recognized provider.

Good health – willing to submit to a medical exam.
Ability to relate with student and establish a good rapport.
Must be a person of professional and personal integrity.
