Job Description
LOCATION: Marguerite E. Small Elementary School

EFFECTIVE: Immediately
2018-2019 school year
Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day, 9:10 AM - 3:40 PM with 1/2 hour unpaid meal break

SALARY: Per collective bargaining agreement between DYRSD School Committee and DYRSAA

SUMMARY
Supports the implementation of the Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provides direct instructional support to students with disabilities in the classroom or in a separate setting.
  • Implements modifications and accommodations to the environment or curricular materials as directed by the special education liaison or related services provider.
  • Adapts classroom activities and materials under the direction of the special education liaison.
  • Collects data regarding students' goals and/or objectives as directed by licensed staff.
  • Assists staff in the management of behaviors by utilizing pro-active pro-social problem solving skills.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
    Must meet NCLB qualifications. Knowledge of child development (intellectual, emotional, and physical) and 12 months experience working with students with special needs is desirable.

    School hours are 9:20am - 3:30pm. Day Care is available before and after school. Day Care opens at 7:15am and closes at 5:30pm.

    Job Requirements
    Must have 2 years of college and/or highly-qualified under NCLB regulations. Ability to assist special education with curriculum implementation. Experience working with special needs children preferred. Must be reliable, responsible and dependable. Must be able to support and assist in the accommodation of education/behavior/social/emotional needs of a student with unique learning challenges. provide a positive role model, good behavior, and respectable interactions with students and staff. Must be flexible and participate as part of team.
  • Bachelor degree preferred
