2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR

Academic Tutors / Afterschool Tutorial Program (SPS-ATP)
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, GRADES K-8

Job Goal: The Somerville Public Schools is now accepting applications from qualified educators for Academic Tutor positions in the after school program. The Somerville Public Schools Academic Tutorial Program (SPS-ATP) will be offered two afternoons per week onsite at each of our K-8 elementary schools.

Responsibilities:
• Provide academic intervention to small groups of 5 students maximum who qualify for ATP
• Provide skill development in Math and ELA reflective of students’ academic needs in order to assist students in attaining the DESE grade level standards;
• Review and utilize district standardized assessment data to determine students’ individual learning goals including: STAR., MCAS, and DIBELS
• Complete all record keeping using the SCOUT database program: generate parent contract letters, write student progress reports, track student attendance, and log tutor hours. Tutors are also responsible for obtaining parent signatures for parent contracts and writing progress reports (1 report for each student per academic year is required) to share with parent/guardian, classroom teachers, and principal
• Incorporate best literacy practices into tutor sessions;

Qualifications:
• Massachusetts D.E.S.E License in appropriate subject area
• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience teaching or knowledge of the specific subject area
• Experience teaching or working with students in grades K-8
• Basic computer literacy

Schedule:
• SPS ATP is offered M-T-W-TH-F afternoons from 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm
• Tutoring will begin in early October

Terms of Employment:
• Tutors will complete a minimum of 25 hours of direct service;
• All new Academic Tutors are required to attend the Academic Tutorial Program orientation, the date is TBD, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
• Stipend payments are compensated at the stipend rate currently at $25/hour. Tutors will receive a maximum stipend of $1200 which is equivalent to 50 paid hours @$25/hr. The 50 hours include 25 hours of tutoring, 13 hours of paperwork (attendance, progress reports), book-room visits and 12 hours of PD and progress monitoring meetings.
• Tutors are required to accurately log their tutoring session dates and time in the Scout record keeping database program. Should tutoring be cancelled for any reason, tutors will not be compensated for the cancelled tutor session (e.g., Snow days, Open Houses, Sick days).
• Please note in accordance with our federal and local Title I obligations, we are not able to issue final payment for tutoring services until all relevant paperwork is submitted (including signed parent contracts, parent signed student learning plans, accurate student attendance and progress reports).

NOTE:
