The Burrillville School Department is a public school district that serves the Town of Burrillville, located about 20 miles from Providence in northwestern Rhode Island, bordering both Connecticut and Massachusetts. Position Description


Title: HVAC Maintenance Technician

Supervisor: Facilities Director

Department: School Department



GENERAL PURPOSE:

The HVAC Maintenance Technician performs the installation, maintenance and repair of the refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and air handling equipment along with the general maintenance for the school department/town facilities.




GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, installing, maintaining and inspecting domestic and commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, cold storage, air handling and pneumatic systems; servicing and calibrating automatic controls, electrical and pneumatic; servicing and performing minor repairs to motors; servicing and overhauling compressors, pumps, fans, condensers, chillers, gauges, recorders, hot water boilers and other auxiliary equipment and/or components or other equipment involved in refrigeration, air handling, air conditioning and heating; performing minor welding repairs, gas, electric-brazing, cutting and silver soldering; maintaining computerized inventory tracking for all HVAC and small appliance parts.

2. Inspect HVAC systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with current code standards.

3. Assemble, install, test, and maintain HVAC equipment.

4. Perform general maintenance to all school district facilities.

5. Available after hours for emergencies as required.

6. Assists with the plowing and snow removal operations on school department grounds.

7. Ordering, verifying and receiving supplies, parts and equipment.

8. Operates school vehicles to transport goods and materials as needed.

9. Responds to work order request as assigned.

10. Assume any other duties or assignments in HVAC and maintenance as designated by the Facilities Director.






MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Licensed active Rhode Island Refrigeration Master 1

2. Licensed active Rhode Island Pipefitter Master 1

3. 5 to 10 Years experience preferred as an HVAC Mechanic. Must be knowledgeable in all phases of air-conditioning and refrigeration, control, systems, heating systems, gauges, and recording equipment. Requires a basic knowledge of electricity and its functions as applied to air-conditioning, air-handling and refrigerated systems. Requires the ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, manufactures specifications sheets, schematics etc.

4. This position requires the physical ability to work in awkward, uncomfortable positions, such as kneeling, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above shoulder level and manual dexterity; working on or from ladders, man lifts, scaffolding, platforms, and small cramped places. Physical strength is required in lifting, carrying and positioning large, heavy equipment.

5. Basic reading comprehension, problem-solving/troubleshooting, and verbal communication skills typically gained through a high school education or GED.

6. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued or approved by Rhode Island Registry of Motor Vehicles is required.

7. Oral and written communication skills at the level required for the position.

8. Ability to write clearly, to recognize common grammatical errors, to perform mathematical operations, and to solve problems at the level required for the position.

9. A pleasant manner and positive, professional attitude that facilitates good interaction with children and adults.

10. Organizational skills that ensure efficiency.

11. Demonstrate knowledge in the basic techniques of carpentry, plumbing and machine repair.

12. Have knowledge of computer skills and applications such as word and excel.

13. Ability to operate manual and power tools.

14. Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of assigned task.

15. Ensures confidentiality in all matters related to staff and student personal information.

16. Other job related duties may be required.
