Job Description
St. Thomas More Catholic Academy seeks an achievement-oriented educator to deliver social studies and religious education instruction to students in grade 5. Teacher must have strong background and experience teaching the Catholic religion. The teacher who fills this role needs to:
• maintain extremely high expectations for student achievement.
• have a superior grasp of content and knowledge of Socratic Method.
• plan and deliver daily effective-rigorous instruction.
• be an effective classroom manager.
• understand the benefits and philosophy behind reflective teaching practices.
• Engage parents and families in their child’s academic success.
• Maintain high professional standards that contribute to school productivity.

A teacher experienced in teaching students in grades 3-5. The preferred applicant has a strong background in Math, Science and Social Studies and is willing to collaborate with other teachers. This applicant must have the vision, interpersonal and instructional skills to foster the total development of students. The successful candidate will be able to provide appropriate learning opportunities for students in a standards-based environment and have the ability to effectively evaluate student performance. The teacher plans and implements an instructional program that adheres to Archdiocese of Washington’s (ADW) goals, priorities and standards. The preferred candidate must meet the needs of all students and maintain accurate student and attendance records. The candidate will also need to exhibit excellent classroom management strategies that are appropriate in a Christian atmosphere.

Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Political Science, Social Science or any other related field is required.

Previous teaching experience is preferred.
