AF Providence Mayoral Academy Elementary School "Home of the Bumblebees" School Leader Aja Davis is the principal of Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy Elementary. Ms. Davis began her teaching career in 2001 in Edmond, Oklahoma as a high school vocal music teacher. In 2004, she moved to New York City and joined the NY Teaching Fellows. After teaching for six years in the Bronx, she joined the Achievement First family and moved to Hartford, Connecticut. As a member of the Achievement First Hartford Elementary team, Ms. Davis taught music, reading, and kindergarten and served as dean of students, and most recently, academic dean. Ms. Davis is excited to work closely with Rhode Island families and communities to help students from Providence, North Providence, Cranston and Warwick climb the mountain to college. She is also looking forward to helping students understand the unique strengths of each community as they grow to become leaders in Greater Providence and the world. AF Iluminar Elementary School "Let Your Light Shine" School Leader Kevin Lohela is the founding principal of Achievement First Iluminar Mayoral Academy. To prepare for this role, he participated in a rigorous leadership training through Achievement First’s Principal-in-Residence program at Achievement First Endeavor Elementary in Brooklyn. Prior to his work at Achievement First Endeavor, he served for five years as the academic dean of Achievement First Crown Heights Elementary School in Brooklyn. He began his teaching career in the Bronx teaching third and fourth grades at P.S. 196. He earned his B.A. in philosophy at Wesleyan University. Mr. Lohela is thrilled to work closely with Rhode Island families and communities to help all children develop positive growth-mindsets, exceptional character, and excellent academic and critical thinking skills that will enable them to be successful in college and in life. |
