Goshen County School District No.1 is a K-12 school system located in the southeast corner of Wyoming. The district consists of three main attendance centers throughout the county, covering 2232 square miles, and serving 1750 students. The district prides itself on small class sizes, comprehensive curriculum, excellent and ever-expanding technology, and students and staff who know how to work. Highly supportive communities are strong features of the school district. The district is committed to providing excellent professional development opportunities for teachers. The district has implemented a strong new teacher induction program that provides a support structure for staff new to the district, extending into the third year of teaching

GCSD is located on the North Platte River in the Southeast corner of Wyoming. Torrington is 84 miles north of Cheyenne, Wyoming and 184 miles north of Denver, Colorado. Scottsbluff, Nebraska is 30 miles to the east, and Casper Wyoming is 145 miles to the northwest. The district is within easy driving to such attractions as the Black Hills of South Dakota and Yellowstone Park, or the urban features of northern Colorado and Denver. Goshen County is an area rich in history as many historic trails such as the Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail, California Trail, and the Texas Cattle Drive Trail passed through the area. The main industries in Goshen County are farming, ranching, cattle feeding,and sugar beet processing. A medium security prison is located near Torrington, adding to the variety of employment opportunities in the area. Other main employment opportunities in the district include the school district itself, Eastern Wyoming College, and a variety of health care facilities including a community hospital.

Residents are proud that this is an excellent place to live, work, and raise their families. Outdoor pursuits are easily found in Goshen County. The plentiful antelope, mule deer, white tail deer, wild turkeys, pheasants, ducks, and geese that populate the area, in addition to access to great fishing, make it an outdoorsman's paradise.
