Job Description


What You Will Do:

  • Provide, oversee training and proper delegation of Nursing/medical procedures to transportation support attendants and other District unlicensed assistive personnel.
  • Provide health assessments for students as indicated through the use of appropriate equipment, techniques and resources
  • Administer daily and PRN medications/treatments in compliance with Physician/PA Orders, State and Federal Laws, and Michigan BON standards
  • Assume leadership in the development, revision and implementation of written emergency care procedures 
  • Recommend and implement school policies/procedures to comply with established health laws
  • Serve as liaison/resource person for school personnel, administrators, families, community, and healthcare providers
  • Plan and provide in-service/classroom education, in cooperation with supervisory staff, for students, school personnel and families
  • Maintain effective oral and written communication and relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators and community partners
  • Interpret medical evaluations for school personnel while maintaining HIPAA and FERPA confidentiality
  • Perform skilled Nursing treatments for children with special healthcare needs
  • Prepare for and respond to school related emergencies (playground, bus, lockdown, disasters, offsite) or other critical incident that affects the health and safety of school staff.  Provide health assessments, counseling, referral services, and transition planning
  • Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings if student health concerns affect the learning environment
  • Participates in home visits when indicated to assess the child’s healthcare needs
  • Reduce chronic absenteeism by providing health education and anticipatory guidance to families, lead transition planning, and monitor homebound status of students with chronic health conditions
  • Develop and revise IHP’s and ECP’s based on assessment, interventions, identification of expected outcomes, and evaluation of care provided
  • Maintain and report current immunization records, weekly communicable disease reports, and PRN reportable childhood diseases to the Berrien County Health Department
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student encounters 
  • Effectively plan and organize duties
  • Comply with school district policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and exhibit professional growth
  • Effectively participate in meetings, committees, staffing and other required district/building activities
  • Comply with Medicaid billing procedures
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned



Under the general supervision of the Building Administrators.



Need to Have:

  • Licensed by the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse
  • BSN or Bachelor’s degree in health-related field
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a School Nurse with MDE
  • Valid CPR Certification
