The role of the Tutor is to provide organizational and academic support to students who require additional strategies in order to make progress in their general education classes and workload.  The Tutor collaborates with teachers, teaches executive functioning skills and study skills to students, and develops organizational systems and structures for students to follow in order to keep up with their work.  The Tutor supports at-risk students as needed, and develops short-term plans for work completion.  The Tutor  is expected to be flexible and adaptable in meeting the needs of all students and as a member of the community at large.


A Bachelor’s (or higher) degree preferred

Appropriate DESE licensure; or eligibility for DESE licensure waiver


  • Deliver instruction (curriculum adaptation and instructional adaptation) to students in order to meet the academic demands of their general education classes
  • Deliver instruction on organizational strategies and study skills to groups of students at various grade levels
  • Work cooperatively with general education teachers, guidance counselors and other staff on meeting the academic needs of students, monitoring student progress and planning for upcoming student work needs
  • Participate as an active member of the Algonquin community
  • Participate in professional development as required to meet the needs of students.
  • Implement daily lessons and tutoring groups and 1:1 supports to students enrolled in focused studies
  • Use positive behavior support strategies to redirect students to task, reinforce positive classroom behaviors and follow any building-based discipline practices.
  • Perform all tasks as directed by the building principal, assistant principal and/or department head including but not limited to home/hospital tutoring needs and EdService plan needs

Skills, Knowledge and Ability:

  • Skilled in implementing instructional and behavioral methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
  • Ability to monitor student performance and progress.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality


Work Environment:  The work environment is in a school setting 

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel.  The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Vision and hearing correctable to within normal ranges.
