Job Description

Overview:

Nuestro Mundo’s mission is to prepare students to be global citizens and stewards of our environment. Using a multilingual and multicultural lens, our students have the knowledge and skills to realize empathy and connect their learning to the community and with a larger global audience.

The Nuestro Mundo Intervention Specialist is charged with improving the reading skills of students when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient to bring the student to the level of his or her peers. The Specialist works with Teachers to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child.

Nuestro Mundo is seeking candidates committed to multilingual and multicultural learners and their success. The school features a two-way immersion program, with 50% of content being taught in Spanish and 50% being taught in English, therefore candidates should be knowledgeable of the tenants of dual language education and environmental sustainability, specifically UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?. Candidates should also be passionate about environmental education and project based learning, as the curriculum will emphasize interactive, hands-on, project-based learning that nurtures students’ engagement and motivation for life-long learning.

Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Teaching preferred
- Experience in a middle school involving various learning modalities
- Fluency in Spanish preferred
- Knowledge of the diverse social and educational needs of students and families
- Such additional qualifications as Nuestro Mundo PCS may find appropriate and acceptable
- Strong written, verbal and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

- Regularly consults with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction.
- Helps Teachers diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses and then matches these findings with appropriate learning techniques and materials. Working with the Teacher, designs interventions and writes lesson plans detailing methods and materials.
- Communicates with families to keep them informed and to enlist their cooperation in helping their child to improve their reading.
- Makes recommendations in areas of expertise such as textbook selection, vocabulary development, concept development, supplementary materials and the development of study skills. Assists in the evaluation of on-going and proposed reading programs.
- Promotes an interest in reading through various means.
- Serves as an advocate for the student through communication with families, Teachers, and other staff.
- Establishes and monitors an evaluation protocol designed to determine the extent of a student’s progress.
- Maintains any records and reports required by the school.
- Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
