Job Description
The Lead Reading/Language Arts Teacher oversees the implementation of the RLA curriculum and teaches a double block of RLA to grades 7-8. The double blocks are not always back to back on the schedule. The Lead RLA Teacher works closely with others, including teaching fellows, in curricular and cross-curricular activities to foster a love of learning and responsibility to the broader community. The Lead RLA Teacher actively participates in the extended day program that promotes the growth of the whole person.
Responsibilities:
1. Effectively manage middle school RLA classrooms by setting high expectations and creating relevant, standards-based lessons
2. Teach utilizing the existing curriculum (Savvas, a Pearson Ed. spinoff) with special attention to the content and methods appropriate to the students’ developmental levels, social/cultural and religious backgrounds
3. Moderate, lead, or coach at least one, seasonal extracurricular activity per year
4. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the administration, whole faculty, content teachers, and grade-level teams to discuss individual student progress and further develop the curriculum
5. Serve as proctor of recess, lunch, or other duties as assigned
6. Serve as a student advisor to a small group of students
