Job Description
The Lead Math Teacher oversees the implementation of the mathematics curriculum and teaches grade 6-8 math to small classes of boys preparing for success in high school, college, and life.
The Lead Math Teacher works closely with others, including novice teaching fellows, in curricular and cross-curricular activities to foster a love of learning and responsibility to the broader community.
The Lead Math Teacher actively participates in the extended day program that promotes the growth of the whole child.
Responsibilities:
1. Effectively manage 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classrooms by setting high expectations and creating relevant, standards-based lessons
2. Teach utilizing the existing curriculum (Engage New York) while making sure the content and methods used are appropriate to the students’ developmental levels and social/cultural and religious backgrounds
3. Moderate, lead, or coach at least one, seasonal extracurricular activity per year. This may include assisting with Academic Support directly after school.
4. Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the administration, instructional coaches, and department and grade-level teams to discuss individual student progress and to further develop the curriculum
5. Serve as proctor of recess, lunch, or other duties as assigned
6. Serve as a student advisor to a small group of students (3-4 students)
