Job Description
League School of Greater Boston is an award winning year-round program dedicated to the education of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our team approach to education creates a collaborative, supportive and open environment within our community. We are currently seeking a Nurse Manager to start immediately.
Education/Experience:
•Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) or MSN or Nurse Practitioner with current Massachusetts registration.
•A minimum of five years’ nursing experience, which must include general nursing and working with students with special needs and two years of administrative experience.
Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall monitoring of the health and safety of the students and for coordinating the management of staff and daily activities in meeting these needs.
Supervision and Training
1.Provides regular supervision to nurses on staff.
2.Assists in writing and implementing health care plans for identified students, including, but not limited to, seizure protocols and allergy protocols.
3.Provides training for school staff members on student-specific health care plans.
4.Provides training for delegated staff in the administration of medication.
5.Provides initial orientation and ongoing in-service training of all staff in the areas of health and safety needs, medical conditions, medical diagnosis and treatment plans.
6.Coordinates and delivers in-service training for all school/residential staff in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, Epi-pen use, AED training, anaphylaxis, seizure protocols, and current health issues per regulatory requirements.
Nursing
1.Provides medically prescribed interventions to all students, including medication administration (based on state regulations) and provides emergency care for students in case of injury or sudden illness.
2.Monitors the health and safety issues within all locations of the residential and school program.
3.Coordinates and implements the state mandated programs (annual physicals, immunizations, scoliosis, vision, hearing, etc.) as well as surveillance and screening programs.
4.Ensures that parents/guardians are informed of health needs of students
5.Communicates with parents and service agencies on topics related to health needs of designated students.
6.Monitors menus, meal preparation and food storage in the residential homes.
7.Orders and manages medications and medical supplies for residential students.
8.Assists in the planning and implementation of documentation procedures (e.g., medication administration, physician’s orders, skin checks, health and safety reports, food intake charts, weights and heights, etc.)
Administrative
1.Implements and manages a comprehensive school/residential health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, DESE regulation, EEC regulation and MDPH regulation.
2.Serves as a resource for nursing staff and school administration.
3.Ensures compliance of nursing department with legal requirements regarding the maintenance and functional service of nursing area including proper supplies, storing of medication and adequate documentation.
4.Reviews medical records to ensure adequate documentation including completion of medication administration records, medical procedure forms, physical examination and immunization requirements and documentation of nursing services administered.
5.Reviews and certifies medication administration records monthly.
6.Provides assistance or input in communication with parents/guardians and outside medical providers regarding medical information, as needed.
7.Participates in establishment, review, and implementation of written policies and procedures addressing health and wellness.
8.Assures that such policies and related procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice.
9.Acts as a liaison to community providers for a range of services in relation to the health and wellness of those in the program.
10.Guides implementation of communicable disease control in the school, including monitoring, surveillance and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the program.
11.Participates in the development of the school’s emergency health and crisis plan.
12.Attends IEP’s and Intakes of students with medical needs.
13.As requested, attends meetings with the Admission Coordinator to discuss incoming students.
14.Maintains comprehensive and confidential paper and electronic school health records, including daily shift reports, incident reports, accident reports, and nursing notes.
15.Participates in ongoing professional development as needed to maintain MA license as a registered nurse and licensure with MA DESE.
16.Provides medical emergency coverage with the assistance of nursing staff 7 days per week and 24 hours per day.
17.Performs other reasonable related duties, as assigned by the Director of Allied Health Services, the Chief Operating Officer and/or the Chief Executive Officer.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
