Job Description
The METCO Academic Liaison advocates for Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle High School students via the METCO program. The position requires integration and collaboration with Boston students, their families, and school-based faculty and staff. The position includes riding the school bus from Boston to Concord in the morning and/or from Concord to Boston in the afternoons. During the school day, the METCO Academic Liaison will establish a supportive rapport with students and work closely with their teachers and counselors to meet their academic and social-emotional needs. The METCO Academic Liaison will perform other duties assigned by the METCO Director and other school-based administrators.
Responsibilities
- Support METCO transportation when necessary--All CPS METCO staff have responsibilities to serve as bus monitors before and after school.
- Collaborate with the bus driver, METCO Director, and staff to ensure the safe behavior(s) of children, take disciplinary action when necessary, and make sure all students follow safety rules and expectations while on the school bus;
- Listen and communicate effectively and professionally with all students, staff, and parents;
- Work closely with the classroom teacher(s) to assess and support the needs of each Boston student;
- Attend and provide input in team meetings and parent conferences if directed by the METCO Director or Principal;
- Meet and communicate with the METCO Director regularly to report on student progress (e.g., academic, discipline, successes, etc.);
- Support individual student academic and behavioral plans;
- Coordinate and support METCO Programming, including but not limited to Family, Friends, and parent meetings in Boston;
- Work in conjunction with the METCO Director and METCO staff to establish programs that will broaden the scope of services for students;
- Assist with the summer school program in July-August, if necessary;
- Assist the METCO Directors for Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle High School with transitional and orientation programs for incoming kindergarten, rising 6th and 9th-grade METCO students;
- Consult with the METCO Directors, Principal, and Assistant Principals regarding parental communication related to academics and if instances of discipline arise;
- Participate in field trips if the METCO Director determines a need;
- Participate in appropriate building-based and district-wide professional development opportunities; and
- Assume other duties within the scope of the job description as assigned by the METCO Directors and Principal.
Terms of Employment:
Non-bargaining unit
Salary commensurate with experience
180 school days, 20 days in the summer school program, if there is a need
Reports directly to the METCO Directors for Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle High School, including building principals for overall performance and specific school duties as approved.

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience and strong passion for working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds; Familiarity with urban and suburban school cultures;
- Established experience working with underrepresented and historically underrepresented students and their families;
- Experience building relationships and communicating successfully with teachers, families, administrators, and students ;
- Enjoys working with children and has a gentle, caring nature, yet, still able to command, as well as give respect;
- Strong writing, speaking, and collaborative skills;
- Proven record of job-related reliability. A previous employment record of excessive job absences or tardiness is not acceptable;
- Physically able to cross streets with students to get them to/from their appointed pick up/drop off location;
- Adept at responding and managing the behavior of children;
- Possesses good observation skills;
- Willing to undergo annual CPR, EpiPen, First Aid, and/or training as required;
Master's degree preferred
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required;
