Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of HearingFull Time contract position for Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to work with Listening and Spoken Language students primarily in public school settings for students PreK-Grade 12, with occasional students in private school settings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide direct services to students with hearing loss or hearing disorders as prescribed by their IEP
Provide consultation services to classroom staff, related service providers and parents/caregivers as prescribed by their IEP
Troubleshoot amplification, adaptive equipment and applicable technology in classroom settings
Implement and adapt curriculum for students with hearing loss
Conduct classroom observations of the student in order to provide appropriate recommendations and accommodations and effectively communicate with the team
Communicate regularly with school based Team and parents/caregivers about student progress
Communicate regularly with local Audiologists
QUALIFICATIONS:Master's degree in Deaf Education with an emphasis on listening and spoken language
MA Department of Education License as a Teacher of the Deaf
Demonstrate an understanding of, or willingness to learn about, best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment for students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Knowledge of common modifications and accommodations for students with hearing loss and the ability to articulate what they are and their benefit
Knowledge of amplification, adaptive equipment and applicable technology
Must have own transportation and have ability to travel frequently throughout the city of Quincy in order to meet the needs of students
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
SALARY: Based upon placement on the regular Q.E.A. salary schedule for teachers.
WORK YEAR: Academic year (182 days)
