Job Description

Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School seeks an experienced, collaborative, and energetic teacher to join the district for a position as a High School Special Education Teacher. Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School (AKFCS) provides an education to 1426 students in grades kindergarten through twelve, comprised of an Elementary, Middle and High School. Job Summary:

- The Special Education Teacher will serve as an integral part of the Special Education Team at Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School, and as a resource to the school community.
- The Special Education Teacher will serve as liaison for a caseload of students with disabilities, and act as a resource to the students’ parents and school team relative to implementation and revision of the IEP.
- The Special Education Teacher will model professional behavior consistent with working in a multi-lingual, multi-cultural and economically diverse urban community.

Responsibilities:
- Model the mission and character virtues of the school.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to special education students per the IEP.
- Develop, design, and implement specialized instruction in collaboration with a student’s educational team, maintain appropriate student documentation, and administer student screenings and assessments, maintaining strict adherence to all MA DESE regulations and district policies and procedures.
- Collaborate and communicate with the General Education Teacher and other Special Education staff to develop and align instruction to support learning/IEP goals, including a variety of co-teaching models and strategies.
- Oversee the instruction provided by Special Education Instructional Assistants.
- Collect and interpret data to document progress on IEP/learning goals.
- Develop and write annual, initial, and reevaluation IEP profiles, current performance levels, goals and objectives, and quarterly progress reports. Participate in IEP Initial, Reevaluation and Annual review Team meetings.
- Participate in the administration of all mandated state and district assessments.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct in relation to information that is confidential in nature. Share information only when recipient’s right to access is clearly established and sharing of such information is in the best interest of the student, per MA DESE, Federal, and District guidelines.
- Build and maintain a safe, fair, and respectful learning environment that celebrates the diversity of the student population.
- Maintain/enhance teaching skills by attending, and, where appropriate, participating in the development of continuing education programs.
- Perform those duties of a non-instructional nature which are customary with the position as well as other tasks as may be assigned by the Building Principal, or Director of Special Education.

Qualifications:
- BA or BS in Special Education or related field
- MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education certification
- Current authorization to work in the United States
- SEI Endorsement

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate but can be noisy, depending upon the task at hand. Specific activities may generate dust and/or non toxic fumes.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear, write, use their hands and fingers, manipulate keys on a keyboard, walk, stand, travel from one area/building to another, stoop, reach, and kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Some light lifting and/or carrying may be required.

Compensation:

Full Time Exempt Salary Position in accordance with the established Teacher’s Salary Scale. AKFCS also provides a comprehensive benefits package which includes the following:
