Job Description

The Bilingual Family Liaison job responsibility is to serve as the bridge between Portuguese -speaking families, schools, and the community. This person supports this effort by assessing and addressing needs through communication, connection, collaboration, and celebration.

Communication:
Through an appropriate cultural and linguistic lens, the Family Liaison ensures that families are aware of:
Knowing who to speak with when supporting their child’s school experience
How to navigate the school system and advocate for their child
Knowing what questions to ask
School based and community based resources
Tools and support they need from teachers regarding students’ progress and how parents/guardians can support learning at home
School events
Knowing how to read a progress report/report card
Volunteer opportunities in and outside of the classroom/school building

Connection:
Through effective communication and active listening, be able to:
Connect teachers and parents/guardians to improve student outcomes
Connect families with the resources available through Quincy Public Schools and Community Partners
Assist with planning and attend events specifically designed to address the needs of bilingual families
Connect families with volunteer opportunities in and outside the classroom
Connect with the receiving school district to support transfer students

Collaboration:
Through deliberate efforts, the Family Liaison will support the parental/guardian voice in school decision making through:
Attendance at the English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC) meetings
Identification of significant topics from families through survey feedback
Attendance at virtual trainings sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPAC)

Celebration:
By acknowledging the school and greater community’s endeavors, the Family Liaison will highlight accomplishments and improvements in climate and culture, academic success, increased school-parent collaboration and community partner development:
Partnering with the ELPAC Board
