Job Description

The special education teacher in Quincy Public Schools GOALS program. GOALS is a comprehensive alternative middle and high school program for at-risk students. Strong behavior management is the foundation of the program's structure, enabling academic, social, emotional and behavioral development. The therapeutic component focuses on the development of coping strategies and solutions enabling students to have better control over their behavior, allowing them to successfully transition back to a regular school environment.


•Responsible for daily instruction in ELA for students as prescribed in their Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
•Responsible for the diagnostic/prescriptive programming for students within the GOALS program.
•Work daily with itinerant staff, related service providers, and administrators.
•Work as part of the school-based evaluation Team to assess students with suspected areas of disability.
•Work in concert with TEAM members to develop and write an IEP.
•Complete daily/weekly/monthly data sheets, evaluation reports, progress reports, IEPs, assessments, and other data required by local, state and federal mandates.
•Be responsible for ongoing diagnostic/prescriptive programming for students in consultation with itinerant specialists and other consultants.
•Supervise the work of the paraprofessionals within the GOALS program.
    •Massachusetts licensure Moderate Disabilities
    •SEI endorsement
    •Master's degree with an emphasis in Special Education preferred.
    •Demonstrated experience as a teacher of students with disabilities, preferably in the area of ELA.
    •Experience with the use of specialized teaching techniques used with special education students
