Job Description

The Learning Community, a K-8 public school, is currently seeking a Student Support Aide to join our dynamic team. This full-time team member will provide one-on-one or small group support to elementary and/or middle grades students in a classroom setting. The role includes providing the student with social-emotional and executive functioning support as well as positive reinforcement for achieving specified goals, support with implementing de-escalation strategies as needed and communicating progress with team and family. Background and experience working with children with exceptional needs is a plus. Position starts immediately.

Job Description:

•Assists student(s) in all areas of instruction including daily routines, academics, specials, therapy groups, and any other appropriate classroom and school activity.
•Assists student(s) with emotional regulation, increasing time on task, maintaining appropriate social interactions.
•Responds appropriately to emergency situations and follows all safety protocols
•Collaborates with team members and families to develop and implement positive behavioral reinforcement techniques within all aspects of the school day.
•Monitors and reports on student behavioral and functional progress to the student’s team and maintains close, ongoing communication with the student’s family.
•Follows through on directions and student program requirements. Responds appropriately to input and direction from supervisor, social workers, teachers, and other team members.
•Follows written and oral directions and instructions, seeking clarification when needed.
•Acts as a good role model by always maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and conversation in front of students and visitors. Always maintains a positive and cooperative attitude.
•Is prepared and punctual for school, meetings, and trainings as required.
•Performs other related tasks as required.


•At least one year of experience working with children who have functional, social, emotional, and behavioral needs (required)
•Willingness to become trained in and implement nonviolent physical intervention protocols as needed (required)
•An Associate degree in an education, psychology, or behavior-related field (preferred)
•Familiarity with the use of behavior monitoring and reinforcement systems (preferred)
