Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a four year accredited program of physical therapy
  • Licensed as a physical therapist in North Carolina

 

Supervises:

  • Physical Therapy Assistant

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Participates in the development, implementation and coordination of a physical therapy program to provide screening, evaluation and treatment of exceptional students
  • Receives medical directions as to the specific results to be achieved and then exercises discretion in determining the clinical procedure to follow
  • Evaluates students using appropriate tests, clinical observation and supplementary information from other agencies and records
  • Develops individual treatment goals and activities
  • Administers treatment and evaluates its effect
  • Participates in the multi-disciplinary meeting to develop Individual Education Plans
  • Instructs and monitors educational personnel, community agencies and parents in the management of the therapy program
  • Coordinates the development and evaluation of a school-wide physical therapy program
  • Participates in documenting material needs, developing policy and preparing budgets
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with State guidelines and school policy
  • Inventories equipment, materials and supplies
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

 

Physical and Cognitive Requirements:

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Physical Therapist job classification within the Exceptional Children Program of Hoke County Schools.  Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Must be able to:

  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch, key requiring repetitive motions
  • Use visual acuity in preparing and analyzing written or computer data
  • Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • Operate a variety of machines, motor vehicles, hand, and job specific equipment and tools
  • Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • Observe general surroundings and activities
  • Hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels, receive detailed information through oral communications and make fine distinctions in sound.
  • Communicate by spoken word to express or exchange ideas and convey detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge the theory, principles and methods of occupational therapy and their application
  • Design or adapt equipment for individual needs
  • Apply and use therapeutic equipment
  • Communicate with students, parents and teachers
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records
