Job Description

The Quincy Public Schools represent a diverse community of eleven elementary schools, five middle schools and two high schools. We have offered after-school string lessons to students for the past twenty years and are seeking dedicated and passionate string instructors to teach group lessons on the violin, viola, cello & bass in our after-school group lesson program.

Our ideal candidate:
•Performs at a very high level on the violin, viola, cello, or bass (one of more of these instruments)
•Works well with elementary and middle-school children
•Is passionate about teaching in a group setting (between 4-8 students)
•Is able to work with beginning and intermediate string players and understands the challenges these students face.
•Communicates well both inside and outside of the classroom
•Is excited about teaching in a developing string program

The Position: We’re looking for string teachers to teach 40-minute group lessons (between 4-8 students) once a week between the hours of 2:30PM-5:30PM. Lessons will take place in our public schools on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays depending upon your availability. Compensation is based on the contractual hourly rate of the Quincy Public Schools, $40.05 per hour, which you will receive per 40-minute class. A minimum of one class may be taught per location, but typically each location has three classes, depending upon enrollment.

A typical after-school group lesson schedule looks like this:
•2:45 PM arrive at the school to set up classroom (stands and chairs)
•3:00-3:40 First Class (Either Beginners or Continuing Students)
•3:45-4:25 Second Class (Either Beginners or Continuing Students)
•4:30-5:10 Final Class (Either Beginners or Continuing Students)
•5:10-5:25 put stands away and straighten up classroom
