Job Description

    1.Candidate must hold a Massachusetts Department of Secondary 5-12 Education (DESE) license in a content area or an Elementary Education 1-6 license.
    2.Candidate must be eligible for a Massachusetts Department of Education license as a Supervisor/Director. A Principal/Assistant Principal License is preferred, but not required.
    3.Five (5) or more years of successful experience in a teaching and/or administrative role.
    4.A Master’s Degree or higher, plus evidence of graduate work and/or experience in curriculum.
    5.Experience in managing, supervising and evaluating staff.
    6.Experience in developing and implementing instructional curriculum.
    7.Successful track record of working with staff, students and families from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds.
    8.Cultural understanding of yourself and use your understanding of yourself and others to build trusting relationships with direct reports, colleagues, and clients.
    9.Experience in or knowledge of contract negotiations and dispute resolution with staff members.
    10.Experience in local or state practices related to hiring new staff members at the school or district level.
    11.Experience working with colleagues related to planning, revising and implementing new initiatives and/or curriculum.
    12.Knowledge of curricula and high quality instructional resources in both basic skill areas and content subject areas.
    13.Demonstrated ability to utilize research-based instructional strategies, assessments and interventions.
    14.Evidence of excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
    15.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
To assist the Senior Director of Curriculum substantially and effectively in the task of developing and maintaining the best possible curriculum, curricular sequences, instructional practices, assessment tools and professional development activities which encompass all aspects of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, the College Board, and any other pertinent initiatives supported by DESE.

Senior Director of Curriculum, Programs & Initiatives

    1.Immediately responsible to the Senior Director of Curriculum, Programs & Initiatives
    for all aspects of curriculum, instruction, assessment throughout the system.
    2.Assists in the supervision and management of Curriculum and Assessment Team Administrators and Coordinators.
    3.Is responsible for assisting in the system integration of curriculum development among regular education and special education.
    4.Plays a leadership role in fostering professional growth, planning, developing and implementing the QPS Professional Development Plan and its opportunities for elementary and secondary staff.
    5.Ensures that initiatives for school leaders and school teams are coordinated and integrate both academic content and instructional strategies (e.g. Universal Design for Learning, culturally and linguistically relevant pedagogy).
    6.Assists in the development, revision and management of all core district curriculum, assessments and instructional materials.
    7.Utilizes state reports, Edwin Analytics, NWEA MAP and other relevant data sources to assist the Senior Director of Curriculum, Principals, Department Heads and Director of Special Education in the analysis of data to drive instructional practice.
    8.Assists the Curriculum and Assessment Management Team (CAMT) in the approval, piloting and purchase of all texts and learning materials.
    9.Serves on all curriculum and assessment related teams and assists in the development, implementation and assessment of the CAMT goals.
    10.Assists the Senior Director of Curriculum and Principals with instructional support in the classrooms, such as model lessons, classroom observations, coaching, and follow-up suggestions or recommendations.
    11.Facilitates involvement and supports active participation of families in their children’s education.
    12.Attends Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee meetings and School Committee meetings as necessary.
    13.Attends professional development workshops and conferences to keep abreast of promising instructional practices.
    14.Assists in the preparation for and may participate in contract negotiations with union staff.
    15.Assists the Senior Director in resolving contractual or personnel issues of staff members.
    16.Assists in the hiring of new staff, as well as helps manage, supervise and evaluate staff.
    17.Collaborates on planning and facilitating meetings, orientations, training and workshops.
    18.Assists in the management of system-wide continuous improvement initiatives including grant acquisition and seeking out innovative programs aligned with school system priorities
    19.Collects and analyzes data to inform educational decisions and best practices; provides support and assistance to staff for presentations, data collection, aligning work to the school system goals, strategic planning, and major initiatives.
    20.Supports and participates in college and community related activities.
    21.Assists in the coordination and implementation of the district summer school program to include programming, staffing, and safety.
    22.Performs other such duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
Serves on the Superintendent’s Leadership Team, the Teaching and Learning Sub-committee, the Curriculum and Assessment Management Team, District Professional Development Team, and Content Vertical Teams.
